Core Music Understanding and Knowledge And Applying to Instrument 

This is intended to be several pieces detailing the cores of music. Unearthing and connecting the pieces of music in us, the sound itself, with ways to properly "get" the truth in creation of music, and also practical ways to understand application. Feel, color, two things that largely define the shape of music are topics to be discussed. These posts are currently on this blog, but are intended to string together as a book, or larger collection to reveal understanding of feel and color, and the quality and shape of music and what it is. You'll also see methods to create this, and understand the ties between note choice, function, and harmony and color.

A guide to utilizing the expressive possibilities of an instrument. These posts (and possibly eventually larger collection, book, etc.) shows deep knowledge on how music is created and how we can use this knowledge to harness the elements of music and better apply these things to music with an understanding of musical flow, creation, and even human creation. There is mild theory on human processing to better understand. These topics may be extremely advanced but also are very rooted in principles, logic, that you may not knew DROVE your music.

 Read this to get music at it’s core, and be able to play ANYTHING. This book will address WHY. And you will be able to play music with a knowing WHY something sounds like a feel, and how to create this yourself. It also works melodically and harmonically, creating color. Color is the quality of a sound piece. Like the intense sound of trance electronic music, the frenzied sound and heady place that bebop has, and the interesting louder and more exciting energy of rock, which feels very alive and not subdued. This is what I mean by color. I think all of this comprises feel in music and more.


Color 

What is color of a phrase? It is something that gives a vibe, feel, or particular sound. Every phrase has a color. When I play a bebop phrase the color is hurried, frantic, avant garde, fast, and heady. This constants with slow jazz, which can be slow, beautiful, artistic, melancholy, and soulful. Keep in mind it’s tough to be extremely heady with slow music. Although it is possible, it will take more careful note choice. Let’s look at color and creating jazz color. This works in other genres too. Play some latin phrases. Feel the color. It is probably loud, slightly brash at times as in mariachi music, rhythmic, and there’s an indisputable latin sounding sense to it, while fused with jazz. Now understand color creates a lot of music. Keep in mind I don’t talk about “seeing colors”. That can sometimes be a bad thing, and usually linked to some sort of illness. I’m not talking about blue, red, or yellow, but rather the description of a sound, the quality, the color to it. It’s not just vibe, like a relaxed vibe, but rather surpassing mood, into qualities - elegance, and ultimately forming a sound. What sounds jazzy? What sounds latin? This is the color that describes a sound. Harmony and melody plays a mega role in color. So does feel, so don’t discount lesser looked at things like feel.
